AI+X Summit Fair

850 participants enjoyed the Fair at this year's AI+X Summit in Zurich, Oerlikon. In the Academia Village, they could learn more about AI research and exchange with the ETH AI Center's Faculty members.

Next to the Academia Village the Startup Village was located where you could learn about the current innovations in the field of AI and learn what novel applications could be on the broad market soon.

On the other side of the Academia Village, you could find the Industry Village with various networking opportunities and insights into how the bigger companies are implementing AI already today in their products and services.

Workshops

The goal of the AI+X Workshops was and is to kick-off new research projects between academia, industry & start-ups.

About the workshops

AI+X Workshops

The goal of the AI+X workshops is to learn more about the impact of AI in the respective field and discover potential project ideas. The workshops derived from the previous AI+X series and aimed at exploring and developing projects. Hopefully, you will hear soon more about the outcome of the AI+X Summit workshops. In this years edition, the following impact areas of AI were part of the AI+X Workshop series:

AI + Climate Change

Led by Prof. Daniela Domeisen the participants in this workshop had the change to deep-dive into AI solutions to mitigate climate change.

AI + Industry & Manufacturing

Under the patronage of Prof. Olga Fink the workshop participants explored project opportunities through the application of AI in Inudstry and Manufacturing.

AI + Legal Tech

Prof. Elliott Ash gave an introduction to the current state of research in AI in LegalTech and fostered a broad discurse in order to discover innovative solutions and ideas in the field of LegalTech.

AI + Augmented Reality

Led by Dr. Klaus Fuchs, the participants took a closer look into the application of AI in Augmented Reality.

AI + Retail

Prof. Siyu Tang provided the participants with insights about current developments of AI solutions in the field of retail. Also in this workshop potential future project ideas arround AI in retail have been discussed.

Focus area Workshops

Besides the AI+X Workshops the participants of the AI+X Summit had the chance to join various insightful and interactive presentations held by experts in the field.

Privacy Perserving Analytics and Machine Learning

In the Privacy-preserving analytics and ML workshop the participants gained insight in Privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) which can enable collaboration and model training on distributed datasets without disclosing the data to any party. They discussed about PETs impact on businesses and society and experienced a hands-on demo of external page Decentriq’s SaaS platform which is based on a particular PET.

AI + Art

In the AI + Art workshop, artist external page Nora Al-Badri and curator external page Adrian Notz explored the ways in which art has been dealing with AI for almost fifty years and which AI topics art is focusing on today. In the context of the AI+X Summit, a focus on the question of productive collaboration between artists and scientists in the field of AI appears pressing.

AI + Architecture, Engineering and Construction

In the AI + Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) workshop the Design++ Center provided an overview of the various applications of AI, especially machine learning, deep learning and computer vision in the AEC industry. In a subsequent second session the participants explored which techniques might be most relevant in their respective work. In the discussion opportunities, limitations and the future of AI + AEC were big topics.

How to Set Up and AI Centre of Excellence?

In the workshops by external page SwissCognitive moderated by external page Andy Fitze and external page Dalith Steiger, the question of how to set up an AI center of excellence was adressed. AI being associated with many promises, our expectations are high. It is thought to make processes faster and more accurate – translating into more efficiency and return on investment. Thinking big is, however, never bad. But it is important to stay realistic, get the basics right, and start small.

About the AI+X event series

Artificial intelligence (AI) is having a growing impact on our daily lives and is also revolutionising research. That is why the ETH AI Center and ETH Strategic Foresight Hub have decided to launch the external page AI+X event series.

Over the course of the next months, we will host a series of events that shed a light on the impact of AI on various field of society. For example, dedicated events on the impact of AI on important topics such as sustainability and curing of extremely rare diseases are planned. Follow experts and decision makers from industry and startups to learn more about their perspectives on the world.

Via three event formats, we will present, discuss and collaborate on AI-related challenges. In AI+X Spotlight videos, researchers from the ETH AI Center present their work in its impact on our society and its future. In the AI+X Labs, we invite experts from academia and industry to identify and collaborate on AI-related challenges such as technical, ethical and societal implications. Finally, in our AI+X Dialogs, we invite the public to discuss AI-related topics with researchers from the ETH AI Center.
