Reflecting on AI+X Summit 2024: A Hub for Innovation and Global Dialogue

The AI+X Summit 2024 in Zurich has cemented its reputation as a leading ecosystem event in the AI calendar, showcasing how artificial intelligence continues to redefine the boundaries of innovation, industry practices, and global cooperation.

AI+X Summit 2024

Hosted by the ETH AI Center in collaboration with ZHAW and University of Zurich, this year’s summit brought together more than 2,000 participants, 150+ expert speakers, and 50+ exhibitors. The summit served as an essential meeting point for researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators from various sectors. 

Diverse and Engaging Content

This year's summit featured 12 specialized tracks and 6 workshops, covering a wide spectrum of topics. Attendees gained insights into responsible and generative AI, human-centric computing, AI for science, and more. For instance, the Generative AI track explored how this technology can be a transformative tool or if it signals the peak of current AI capabilities, as discussed by experts like Prof. Björn Ommer. The AI for Science track highlighted innovative applications of AI in research, including talks by leading figures such as Prof. Siddhartha Mishra and Tobias Pfaff from Google DeepMind, who showcased AI’s role in modeling complex scientific phenomena. while workshops offered practical insights, such as how to effectively adopt AI into business processes and ensure responsible, ethical implementation.

The Main Stage hosted influential discussions led by prominent speakers, tackling critical topics such as the real-world implications of AI in global policy and strategies for responsible development. Panels such as “The State of AI” brought together leaders from EY, IBM, and Julius Bär to reflect on the current AI landscape and emerging trends. Meanwhile, the Swisscom Innovator Stage was a showcase for startup innovation, featuring panels like “Pioneering Robotics”, which shared insights from successful transitions from research to startup success, and talks on practical applications like AI-powered industrial anomaly detection by Christian Henning from EthonAI.

The Academic Village, featuring partners like ZHAW and the University of Zurich, highlighted cutting-edge research projects, while exhibitors provided a window into the innovative applications of AI across various industries. The interactive Cube Experiences allowed participants to engage with real-world demonstrations of how AI can be leveraged to solve complex challenges.

Spotlight on Collaboration

Partnerships played a pivotal role in enhancing this summit’s depth and reach. The summit’s success was made possible thanks to the support of ZHAW, University of Zurich, ZHDK, Universitätsklinik Balgrist, OR-X, Swisscom, and IPZ, whose contributions helped create a rich and engaging experience.
