Liat Grayver

Artist Liat Grayver is Junior Fellow at the Collegium Helveticum. We are collaborating with Liat on her fellowship project “Getting Intimate With the Surface: Transdisciplinary Research Into Painting and Robotics” in connecting her to AI Center fellows and faculty as well as artists, to develop together an exhibition and conversations in the ETH Semper Observatory, that has strong ties to mathematician and astronomer Rudolf Wolf (1816–1893).

Exploring the history and the present of astronomy and algorithms on the axis of prediction, prophecy and patterns within Liat's fellowship, the core aims of her project are to articulate, assess and catalogue paradigms of creativity in the realm of machine-assisted processes and to broaden the discussion around methods of human expressivity in an era of mass communication of generated images. Liat will focus in her investigation on how the use of emerging technologies such as robotics and interactive machine learning can be applied to the task of „unlearning“ the prevailing conditions and rules for visual art production that are embedded in the learning and thinking processes in much of the Western world.
